| This forum brings together staff who are concerned about the standard and quality of accommodation services for international students and improved ways to provide information to students about their accommodation options and rights. This is an issue that affects students from all sectors. | With an increasing level of plagiarism and various levels of language proficiency across many sectors, Language and Learning skills support is beginning to be seen as an essential form of support for international students. Varying strategies such as embedding these services into the curriculum, in- class academic skills workshops and peer mentoring are used in many institutions to combat this. This forum is an opportunity to discuss this and other related issues and challenges. | This forum will look at effective orientation activities and how to actively engage students during orientation time. This forum is an opportunity to share ideas and learn practical ideas and strategies to enhance student engagement during orientation time. | Katie Sleeman, Education Advisor U.S. Consulate, and Vincent Flores, Regional Educational Advising Coordinator along with Aimee Black, Education USA are attending the conference for the day with a view to connecting with those interested in enhancing the uptake of USA students in NZ Universities and education providers. This will be a roundtable discussion about building mutually beneficial relationships. This session will be of interest for those working with USA Students and study abroad programmes and those involved in international offices responsible for promoting international education |

The pre-tertiary sector is a large one and encompasses students in both pathways programs and schools. The issues associated with providing specialised services to international students under-18 can be broad ranging and highly challenging. This is an opportunity to address those issues. The schools sector is an ever growing sector and poses its own unique issues and challenges. This is an opportunity to address these issues specifically related to international students within the school sector. This forum will also look at issues that arise when dealing with students within co-educational, same sex schools, day and boarding schools. |
This forum will focus on issues specifically related to office management, resources and staffing. Also to be discussed are managing career development and progression for staff and balancing strategic and operational expectations in an often changing landscape. Managers and Directors are invited to share their experiences in these areas | This forum will interact on the specific issues and experiences encountered , with study abroad students including orientation, support and providing community engagement experiences. Opportunity will be given to share practical ideas, programmes and strategies that enhance the engagement, connection and support of study abroad students | Being up with the play in relation to technology and social media is a challenge all of us face and meet just so we can do our jobs effectively in serving international students. This forum will focus on discussing some of the challenges and in sharing some of the practical solutions to those challenges. This is a moving space and being up to date as far as possible is greatly enhanced by learning from one another. Join this forum to discuss the latest social media and technology challenges and to contribute your take on how to handle the constantly changing context. | This session will be facilitated by Emily Fabling, Director, International at Ministry of Education of New Zealand, and will enable engagement on the strategy for International student well-being under development and nearing readiness for role out. This session is designed to obtain feedback and input on enabling international student well-being and how the ministry can assist. |
